Online Therapy in Decatur, Georgia

Affirming online therapy for Decatur adults, couples and teens, with Georgia-licensed therapists who respect who you are.

Therapy for Decatur

You should be able to talk to your therapist without first explaining or defending who you are. Our clinicians work openly with LGBTQ+ clients, people of color, neurodivergent clients, and people whose sense of identity is still taking shape. If you're in Decatur and want a therapist who gets that, we can help you find one.

MentalSpace Therapy is an online practice serving DeKalb County and all of Georgia. Sessions are held over secure video, so you meet from the place where you feel most comfortable. We accept most major insurance plans and Georgia Medicaid, and private pay is welcome.

Who we help

Is this a fit for you?

We work with individuals, couples and families of every makeup. Teens ages 13 to 17 can explore questions about identity, belonging and relationships in a confidential space. Adults reach out about anxiety, depression, relationship concerns and the stress of not feeling seen. You can share preferences about your therapist on the intake form.

You might be dealing with

  • Trouble sleeping, focusing or getting through the day
  • Questions about identity, belonging or who you are becoming
  • Grief after a death, a breakup or another loss
  • A teenager who is struggling at school or at home

How online therapy works

What you need for an online session

A private room, a device with a camera, and a stable internet connection. That's it. Video sessions run on a HIPAA-compliant platform, and your documents live in a secure client portal instead of on a clipboard.

For people in Decatur and the rest of DeKalb County, telehealth means you schedule around your commute instead of adding another one. Weekday hours run until 7pm ET, and Saturday hours run from 10am to 3pm ET, with Sunday sessions by arrangement. If you travel, you can still meet from anywhere in Georgia, but sessions can't take place while you're out of state.

Therapy services

Individual therapy and couples counseling, online

Therapy doesn't need to mean a couch in an office across town. For Decatur adults, individual therapy happens over secure video from home or any private room in Georgia. Sessions are about 50 minutes, and you see the same therapist each week so the work builds over time.

For couples, therapy is a structured process: an assessment phase, a working phase where you practice new patterns between sessions, and a tapering phase. Every couple is different, and your therapist will be honest with you about what they are seeing as you go.

Parents stay involved

Consent, safety updates and family sessions

Around the school day

Weekdays until 7pm ET and weekends

If you're a Decatur parent, you may have noticed changes before your teen said a word: slipping grades, skipped meals, more time behind a closed door. Teen therapy gives 13- to 17-year-olds a confidential place to talk with a therapist who specializes in adolescents, not an adult therapist who occasionally sees kids.

You stay involved in the ways that matter. You fill out the intake and sign consent, you hear right away if there is a safety concern, and you join periodic family sessions. Your teen is told on day one what stays private and what doesn't, which is what makes the room safe enough for honest work.

Because sessions are online, there's no pickup line and no drive after school. Look for a weekday time after classes end, before 7pm ET, or a Saturday between 10am and 3pm ET, or a Sunday by arrangement.

Insurance and cost

What therapy costs with insurance

The short answer: as low as $0 per session with insurance, depending on your plan. Georgia Medicaid plans, meaning Amerigroup, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan, typically have a $0 copay. Commercial plans usually mean a copay or coinsurance once any deductible is met.

Commercial plans we accept include Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Optum / UnitedHealthcare and Humana, along with some Aetna and Humana Medicare Advantage plans. We make the benefits calls for you and share the dollar amount before you're scheduled. If you'd rather not use insurance, private pay is available at a per-session rate confirmed in advance.

Coaching

Life and relationship coaching

Not everything calls for therapy. Life coaching is forward-looking and goal-driven: a career change, a leadership role, a transition you want to handle on purpose. Relationship coaching helps partners, daters and individuals build practical skills like communication and decision-making. Neither requires a diagnosis.

Most of our coaches hold ICF credentials. Coaching isn't a medical service, so insurance doesn't cover it, and rates are shared on your welcome call before you commit. If what you describe sounds more clinical, we'll tell you and point you to therapy instead.

Getting started

What your first session looks like

From the first form to your first session usually takes about a week. Here is the path.

  1. 1

    Tell us a little

A four-step form that takes about two minutes: who you are, what's bringing you in, how you'd like to pay, and your preferences. You don't enter any payment information online.

  2. 2

    A care coordinator calls

Within 24 to 72 hours, a real person reaches out to confirm details, answer questions and make sure we're the right fit. If we're not, we'll help you find the right place.

  3. 3

    Portal and paperwork

You get access to our secure client portal to sign consent, privacy and intake forms. We verify your benefits and tell you your per-session cost.

  4. 4

    Your first session

Fifty minutes over secure video. Your therapist gets to know you and starts building a plan with you, not a generic protocol.

Decatur FAQ

Questions people ask before starting

Do you have an office in Decatur?

We don't have an office in Decatur, or anywhere else, because all of our therapy is online. That means no drive and no waiting room: you join a secure video session from a private spot in Georgia, and paperwork happens in our client portal.

How do I start therapy for my teenager in Decatur?

A parent or legal guardian completes our intake form on the teen's behalf and signs consent. We see teens ages 13 to 17. A care coordinator talks briefly with both of you, then matches your teen with a therapist who specializes in adolescents. Sessions are by secure video, so your teen can join from home after school.

Is online therapy private?

Sessions run on a HIPAA-compliant video platform, and your paperwork lives in a secure client portal. You choose a private place to join from. If you use insurance, your plan sees a diagnosis code and dates of service, never the content of your sessions. Private pay is available if you'd rather not file a claim.

What hours can Decatur clients book sessions?

Our hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 7pm ET and Saturday from 10am to 3pm ET, with Sunday sessions by arrangement. Exact appointment times depend on your therapist's availability, and the care team will look for a recurring time that fits your schedule.

Do you accept Georgia Medicaid in DeKalb County?

Yes. We work with the Georgia Medicaid plans Amerigroup, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan, and most Medicaid clients pay $0 per session. We confirm your benefits before your first session.
